The Sound of Music Will Be Heard at Santa Catalina School Once Again
Monterey, Calif. - March 23, 2005 - Students at Santa Catalina School will perform the musical, The Sound of Music, at the Performing Arts Center located at 1500 Mark Thomas Drive in Monterey this April. The original Von Trapp family performed at the school in 1953, so the performance is especially meaningful to the school and to Sister Carlotta, the former head of school who was present to witness the excitement of the original family.
"It was a wonderful treat to hear the Trapp Family Singers," said Sister Carlotta. "Our entire school was thrilled they stopped in Monterey to perform for us. It is a memory I shall never forget, and makes the performance of this musical especially endearing," she added.
The Sound of Music is set in 1938 and takes place in Salzburg, Austria. Maria Rainer, a free-spirited member of the Nonnberg Abbey, has been directed, by request of the Mother Superior, to become the governess of the Von Trapp children. But this time around, the Von Trapp family will consist of students enrolled in the Theatre Arts Program at Santa Catalina.
Evening performances will be held on April 15, 16 and 21 at 7:30 p.m., and a matinee performance will be held on April 22 at 12:15 p.m. Tickets are $5 for senior adults and school students; $7.50 for general admission.
