World Class Cycling Event Now Not Only Catering to Racing Enthusiasts, but Families

MONTEREY, Calif. — You may have heard about the Mercury Sea Otter Classic, powered by SRAM, through the racing world, but now families are taking a major part in this event and its activities at the world-renowned Laguna Seca Raceway. Although, between the 22nd and 25th of March, this event hosts one of the most prestigious dual slalom mountain bike stages races in the world and is one of the leading road stage races in the United States, its defining feature is something else - family. Who would argue that one of the best ways for children to reinforce bonds with their parents is through a healthy outdoors activity? The Sea Otter Classic provides this in a controlled and secure environment. The Sea Otter Classic is an event for all that enjoy cycling, from the serious competitor to the weekend warrior. Last year, 7000 people entered events at the Sea Otter Classic, but an estimated 40,000 spectators visited the venue during the race weekend. Sea Otter Village was full of thousands of people there to enjoy a weekend of great racing and fun activities. Sea Otter Village is a gathering place where spectators can enjoy stunt shows, shopping, food booths, night rides, fun rides, kids games and, this year, the new adventure trail. Families are a huge part of the Sea Otter Classic and this year a special family schedule has been created. Activities (see attached event listings) will take place from Thursday, March 22, 2001 through Sunday, March 25, 2001. Entrance fees to Laguna Seca are as follows: Children under the age of 12 are free, Thursday admission is free for children and adults and Friday through Sunday admission is $10 a day for spectators 13 years and older, or a three-day pass is available for $15. Admission is free for registered riders and families accompanying registered riders. During the Sea Otter Classic weekend races start and finish, but the unabashed celebration of cycling goes on non-stop the entire time.
