Carmel, Calif. - July 21, 2005 - People driving on Highway 1 near the Barnyard Shopping Village in Carmel during the next few weeks may notice the addition of storyboards and flags indicating a proposed change to the property.

The Barnyard is seeking to relocate its industrial trash compactor to a more secure site out of view from Highway 1, improving the aesthetics of the property. Currently, the old trash compactor is located in the middle of State Parks land facing Highway 1, while the proposed new site is located in the northwest corner, away from public view. The new trash compactor site will be enclosed by gates to increase security and discourage public dumping.

This project is only one aspect of the many renovations currently underway at the Barnyard Shopping Village. Renowned for beautifully maintained gardens, exquisite shopping and fine dinning, the revitalization plans include many aesthetic and accessibility improvements.

The Barnyard Shopping Village, built in Carmel in 1976, is a landmark on the Monterey Peninsula, featuring 50 merchants ranging from boutique shops, restaurants, office spaces and art galleries.
