Girl Scouts of Monterey Bay learn lessons in racing careers from professional female driver

MONTEREY, Calif. - Over thirty local Girl Scouts of Monterey Bay will be out at the Skip Barber Racing School to learn more about "Women in Racing" on Saturday, April 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., during the weekend of the Western Race Series Finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Professional female racecar driver and Skip Barber Race Series Director, Divina Galica, will be on site along with Gill Campbell, CEO of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, to talk to the Girl Scouts about career opportunities for women in the motor-sports industries. Discussions will go from 10:45-11:45 a.m., followed by a tour of the world-famous Laguna Seca track, lunch, then viewing of the Race Series, and closing comments.

"Skip Barber Racing School is very honored to demonstrate the accomplishments and success of women in racing," said Jeanette Veitenheimer, Office Manager of Skip Barber facility at Laguna Seca.

The purpose of the Girl Scouts organization is to inspire girls with the highest ideas of character, conduct, patriotism, and service that they may become happy and resourceful citizens and contributing members of society.

Laurel McCombs, Director of Communications for the Girl Scouts of Monterey Bay, said, "It is important for our Girl Scouts to see women breaking barriers and playing powerful roles in a sport and industry that is occupied largely by men. We believe 'Women in Racing' will reiterate our basic message of self-confidence and ability in young women."

"Women in Racing" will be the first event of its kind at Skip Barber Racing School at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
