Shake Family Salvation Army Fundraisers Great Success
$186,563 to Benefit the Salvation Army of the Monterey Peninsula
Thanks to the compassion and generosity of residents of the Monterey Peninsula, a total of $186,563 has been raised this year, and over $650,000 have been raised since the fundraisers were established. All the monies collected through the fundraisers will go directly to the Salvation Army of the Monterey Peninsula to address the organization's growing needs.
According to Major Dave Yardley of the Salvation Army, the economy has impacted so many in the community over the past two years that requests to the Salvation Army have greatly increased:
* 34% increase in their Homeless Feeding Program
* 41% increase in food boxes
* 85% increase in rental assistance
* 20% increase in the number of nights in their two housing programs
* 40% increase in services rendered to senior citizens
Though the Shake Family fundraisers for the Salvation Army are over for the season, the Salvation Army always appreciates and needs donations to address the continually growing needs of our community. For ways to contribute to our local Salvation Army, visit www.tsamonterey.com.
