Scientific Study Demystifies Orchids
Orchids Much Easier to Care for than Previously Thought
- The seemingly delicate orchid is a lot easier to care for than previously thought, a University of California Davis study has revealed. In fact, orchids that have suffered an untimely fate may have just been receiving too much water.
The study was sponsored by Rocket Farms, a nursery located in the Salinas Valley in California, and conducted by UC Davis. It focused on discovering ideal growing conditions for the most popular varieties of orchids in order to provide customers with optimal home care instructions for their plants. The study found that contrary to popular belief, orchids grow best and maintain healthy flowers longest when they are watered only every 20-25 days. To further decrease the amount of water needed by their orchids, Rocket Farms grows the flowers in moss rather than a bark or soil medium.
This finding repositions orchids in the world of flowers. Instead of being difficult to grow in the home, as previously thought, orchids are one of the easiest household plants to take care of and make the perfect household plant for busy people looking to add a touch of beauty to their homes.
