Santa Catalina School Girls Golf Team Places Third in the State of California – Monterrey Golfer Member of Winning Team (estudiante De Monterrey Ayuda Un Equipo De Golfo Ganar El Tercer Lugar En El Estado California, E.e.u.u.)
Monterey, Calif. - January 9, 2006 - One year after narrowly missing a bid for participation in the California Central Coast Section (CCS) Championship, the Santa Catalina's girls golf team won the section title and placed third in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Girls Golf Championship on November 16. Sophomore Eugenia Guerra joined a six-girl squad with members from around the United States of America to become the third best team in the state of California.
"Last year is forgotten," Santa Catalina coach Jim Tuttle said. "This was about this year, about this team. We wanted to make our mark, and I would say we did just that."
Eugenia Guerra and her teammates had a dream season. The Cougars easily won the Tri-County Athletic League title, following-up with a record-setting CCS Championship win. The team's third place state finish took place at the PGA of Southern California Legends Course, just outside of Beaumont, California.
"In an 18-hole tournament, anything can happen," Tuttle said. "Eugenia and the team played to their potential and were really rewarded for the hard work they put in."
Collins was joined by teammates Eleana Collins from Pinehurst, North Carolina, Courtney Mazzei from Larkin Valley, California, Julie Park from San Jose, California, Ariana Patterson from Carmel, California and Ryan Tuttle from Monterey, California.
With the holiday season over, the team has already started practicing for next year.
