Orthopedic Medical Practice Announces New Team Member and Creation of Monterey Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine Center

Monterey, Calif. - December 12, 2005 - Dr. Ronald Chaplan and his staff are pleased to welcome Dr. Peter Gerbino to their medical practice. With the addition of Dr. Gerbino's expertise in Sports Medicine, the existing practice has expanded and will now be called the Monterey Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine Center.

"Dr. Gerbino brings a strong academic and research background, as well as additional skilled surgical expertise to our new [Monterey Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine] Center," said Dr. Chaplan.

Before coming to Monterey, Dr. Gerbino spent the last eight years in the Sports Medicine Division of Boston Children's Hospital, where he focused on care of children and adults with orthopedic and sports medicine problems. He also worked extensively with all types of performing artists, including traveling as team physician with the U.S. Figure Skating Team to Japan and Europe. His patients range from 8-year-old gymnasts to 80-year-old tennis players.

Dr. Gerbino's academic appointments included orthopedic surgery positions at the Naval Hospital in Long Beach, California, the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio and at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Stanford University and completed medical school at the University of Pittsburgh in 1986.

The Monterey Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine Center provides patients with the latest medical advancements for arthroscopic surgery and minimally invasive joint replacement as well as individualized therapeutic and rehabilitation programs. The practice's founder, Dr. Ronald Chaplan, has specialized in Orthopedics for more than 24 years in Monterey, California. He earned his medical degree from the University of San Francisco in 1975, and he is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.

The mission of the Monterey Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine Center is to centralize and streamline the compassionate care of patients utilizing the most advanced procedures available. Patient education begins upon entering the office, from prevention of treatment of injuries, to pre and post-operative instruction, should surgery be necessary.
