Newest Family Attraction Opens on Cannery Row
New entertainment center named after a former Cannery Row destination, Oscar Hossenfelder Edgewater Packing Co.
Cannery Row Company is proud to welcome the newest entertainment center on Cannery Row, "Oscar's Playground", open now on the third floor of the 685 Cannery Row building in the former Blue Fin Billiards location.
Oscar's Playground offers a bevy of games, snacks, local brews, and multigenerational entertainment with gorgeous views of the Monterey Bay. Founders Christina and Barrie Riddoch, who also own and operate Escape Room 831 on Cannery Row, have created a whimsical hang-out spot for families on the go.
"Oscar's Playground brings a wonderful new, family-friendly entertainment center to our growing list of world-class attractions on Cannery Row." said Bill Grimm, Chief Operating Officer at Cannery Row Company.
The spacious new venue includes more than a dozen arcade games ranging from old-school favorites to modern releases. There are also several escape games as well as claw machines with prizes, skee ball, playful selfie stations, and much more. The lounge area includes big-screen televisions, plush couches and cozy beanbags, and a seahorse mural that shines under evening blacklights. A special events room is available for private parties, teambuilding events and nonprofit fundraisers. Currently, Oscar's Playground offers grab-and-go snack food, sodas, and beer by local favorites like Alvarado Street Brewery.
"We felt like families visiting Monterey didn't have a place to land. After they go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, they want to get off their feet, have a snack and check the map. The kids might still be running around, so it's hard to make quick decisions. At Oscar's, the kids can play while you rest and choose your next Cannery Row adventure," owner Christina Riddoch says.
Oscar's Playground is named for Oscar Hossenfelder's Edgewater Packing Co., a former Cannery Row destination with arcade amusements, shops and a historic old-time carousel. The Riddoch's both played games there when they were young, and Cannery Row has remained an important place throughout their adult lives together.
Oscar's Playground is located at 685 Cannery Row on the third floor and is open Monday – Thursday 1:00-9:00 PM, Friday – Saturday 11 AM – 11 PM, Sunday – 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM. For more information, visit: www.oscarsplayground.com.
