SALINAS, Calif. - October 6, 2009 - Volunteer opportunities are available at Natividad Medical Center for those in the community who would like to help the hospital meet the needs of patients.

Hundreds of dedicated volunteers help the 172-bed acute care medical center in numerous ways such as operating the gift shop, assisting visitors around the hospital campus, offering companionship to pediatric and elderly patients and providing clerical services.

Those wishing to volunteer will be given an assignment according to their interests and skills. Some of the opportunities available include helping patients in the emergency room, greeting visitors and new patients at the welcome desk, visiting with patients, clerical duties and assisting with special events.

Volunteers may also help from home by creating special holiday items and other articles for patients. A current volunteer regularly knits baby booties for all the newborns at the hospital.
