Much to Celebrate at Stevenson School's 2003 Commencement Ceremony
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.-On May 30, 2003, Stevenson School will not only celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2003, but also the opening of its spectacular new Rosen Family Student Center. As it is Stevenson's 50th anniversary, and in keeping with the themes of tradition and history that are woven into this event, graduation also will see a homecoming for commencement speaker Michael Jackson '68 and classmate and architect Mark Hornberger '68.
Jackson, who lives in Los Angeles, is the vice president for student affairs and an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California. He holds advanced degrees in educational administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a bachelor's degree from Stanford University.
Hornberger, who lives in San Francisco, is the principal architect of Stevenson's second generation of buildings, including Atwood, Day, Wilson and Silverado halls, as well as the new Rosen Family Student Center. Hornberger met Stevenson's first architect, John Lyon Reid, while a student at Stevenson. Later, while studying at Cornell University, he spent the summers working in Reid's office in San Francisco.
Graduation also marks the end of the school's ambitious five-year, $26.5-million capital campaign. The ceremonies begin at 10:30 a.m. with the dedication of the new building and celebration of the many donors who helped Stevenson succeed in its campaign. The morning will conclude with the graduation ceremony.
The new Rosen Family Student Center will house a number of student and faculty services, including: academic offices, a technology center, college counseling center, health center, the school radio station, KSPB-91.9 FM, student government offices, photography lab, high-tech classrooms and a student snack bar and lounge.
Tours of the new Rosen Family Student Center for MEDIA ONLY can be arranged the morning of Wednesday, May 28, 2003. For more information and to confirm a time, contact Lisa Piotrkowski of Armanasco Public Relations, Inc. at 831.372.2259.
