MONTEREY, Calif. - May 11, 2006 - Monterey County Citizens for Safe Transportation, a coalition of concerned community members from across the county will formally announce their support of Measure A on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Hovden Way at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Measure A will improve safety and traffic flow on Highways 1, 68 and 156; make Highway 101 safer; fill hazardous potholes; improve local bus service; expand transportation services for elderly and the disabled. The Measure will levy a 1/2 of one percent sales tax for 14 years, secure state and federal matching funds and create a Citizens Oversight Committee.

WHAT:   
Monterey County Citizens for Safe Transportation (MCCST) will hold a press conference, bringing together Monterey County residents, political and business leaders to support Measure A. The goal of the press conference is simply to remind citizens of Monterey County that it is time take local control over state and federal transportation dollars. Monterey County must ensure safety is improved on local roads, highways and school routes for generations to come. 

 Speakers include: Hon. Leon E. Panetta, Monterey Mayor Dan Albert and master of ceremonies, MCCST co-chairman Chuck Della Sala. In addition, distinguished guests, public safety, transportation, senior and social service advocates and the community at large from all over Monterey County will be attending and showing their support of Measure A.
