Monterey, Calif. - March 22, 2010 - Domenico's on the Wharf was visited last week by approximately 50 energetic students from Bay View Elementary who came to participate in the restaurant's Squid Kids program. The students loved the experience and had the opportunity to touch and see the ocean life served at restaurants.

The Squid Kids program started in 2008 for 2nd-5th grade classrooms to learn about fishing and seafood in the Monterey Bay. The students travel around to stations: at the first they get to touch and smell crabs, sardines, large salmon and clams; next they see and learn about an array of fishing gadgets such as old depth finders, pulleys, net needles, propellers, and more as they are explained how fish are caught. The kids also get a lesson on how to tie and repair fishing nets and can try on fishing rain gear.

At the end of the program, the kids get to eat fresh calamari, which to their own surprise they love. With the plates eaten clean, the students, when asked what calamari tastes most like, they yelled out, "It tastes like chicken nuggets!"

All students that participate in the Squid Kids program receive a pass to eat for free off the kids' menus at Café Fina and Domenico's for one year so they can put their seafood knowledge to the test.

Squid Kids is a complimentary program provided by Domenico's on the Wharf and is a great educational opportunity for elementary students. The program lasts approximately 75 minutes and is open to all elementary schools.
