Lidia Bastianich, Host of Public Television’s Upcoming Lidia’s Italy in America Visits Cannery Row
Host of Emmy-nominated food and travel show to feature The Sardine Factory in an episode
MONTEREY, Calif. - August 20, 2010 - On Saturday, August 14, Lidia Bastianich and her crew filmed an episode of her new show, Lidia's Italy in America, at the world-famous Sardine Factory on Cannery Row in Monterey.
Exploring the roots of Italian-American cooking and the contributions of immigrants, Bastianich and her daughter, Tanya Bastianich Manuali, spent the afternoon cooking and talking with President and CEO, Ted Balestreri and Executive Chef and COO, Bert Cutino. Cutino cooked for Bastianich a very special sardine and pasta dish. Lidia also interviewed Balestreri about his Italian-American heritage, which inspires the superior quality brought to the table each day at the Sardine Factory.
"My grandfather came to this country to build a better life for his family. I'm a very lucky man, because this could only happen in America," said Balestreri.
The show, which premieres in September 2011, features the best of Italian cooking in America and follows in the tradition of Bastianich's past hits, Lidia's Italy, Lidia's Italian Table, Lidia's Italian-American Kitchen and Lidia's Family Table.
