MOSS LANDING, CALIF. – August 11, 2016 – KC Mares has been named Chief Data Center Development Officer for DeepWater Desal LLC (DWD).  DWD's Monterey Bay Regional Water Project includes the co-location of a 150 megawatt Data Center complex planned to occupy a total land footprint of approximately 775,000 feet.  Mares will oversee all aspects of the data center development and operations for DWD.

Mares has been focused on energy efficient data centers for almost 20 years, designing, building and operating the lowest cost and most efficient data centers in over 20 countries.  Mares has led and developed solutions in data center site selections, development, designs, operations and energy reductions for many data center owners, including: Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Equinix, NCAR, LBNL, US DoE, Rackspace, Bloomberg, Digital Realty Trust, NTT, DuPont Fabros, TELUS, Exodus, Sun Microsystems and Apple.  He has led the design of over $10 billion dollars of data centers, all with industry leading energy and cost efficiencies.

Mares also helped create the Reno Technology Park, the largest dedicated data center campus in North America with on-site renewable energy generation and with some of the world's most efficient data centers with a variety of sustainability and energy options.

For three years, Mares chaired the SVLG Data Center Energy Efficiency demonstration program, and led Yahoo's worldwide data center strategy, development and construction, leading the construction of over $1 billion dollars of energy efficient data centers and data center site selections and procurements around the globe.  His work has earned numerous awards including receiving the EnergyStar Partner of the Year award twice.  He is a pundit of long-term solutions that improve the quality of life, environment and sustained economic vitality.

DWD plans to build a 25M gallon per day desalination facility with a seawater cooled data center at Moss Landing, California that will supply potable water to water agencies in both Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties.  Mares joins DWD team members Brent Constantz, CEO; Dennis Ing, CFO; Kim Adamson, GM; David Armanasco, Public Relations/Government Affairs; James Heisinger, General Counsel; Ambassador John Bohn, Chief Strategist; and Ray Harris, Chief Power Officer.
