Housing Authority to Hold Press Conference to Celebrate Renovation of Farm Labor Housing Centers

August 5, 2004

WHO:

The Housing Authority of the County of Monterey

WHAT:

Congressman Sam Farr alongside Supervisor Lindley and distinguished guests will officially announce the renovation completion of the Housing Authority of the County of Monterey's Salinas and Chualar Farm Labor Housing Centers. The $1.9 million modernization project upgraded 86 units, ranging from two to four bedrooms in size. This rejuvenation has been much anticipated by the local community and current residents. Farm labor housing centers are for workers that are employed by a producer or a producer owned co-op engaged in the production or handling of an agriculture commodity in its unprocessed or unmanufactured state, and earn a minimum of $3,835 per year.

Funding for the modernization was provided by a combination of grants under the State funded Joe Serna Farmworker Program, low-interest loans from USDA Rural Development and the Housing Authority's own project reserves.
