Housing Authority Recognizes Key Community Leaders at Annual Meeting

SALINAS, Calif.-- The Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the County of Monterey (HACM) honored and acknowledged community leaders during this year's annual meeting held on September 27, 2004. Commissioners also held an election in which Alan Styles was elected to serve as Chair of the Board and Michael Nichols as Vice-Chair.
This year the Housing Authority Commissioners recognized: Marilyn Dorman, Executive Director of the Housing Advocacy Council, for her dedication and leadership in the community; Wayne Clark, Director of Behavioral Health, County of Monterey, for his vision and innovation in non-traditional collaboration in responding to community needs; Brian Contreras, Executive Director of Second Chance Youth and Family Services, for his personal involvement at a Housing Authority property resulting in eliminating gang activity and restoring a sense of community spirit to the residents; Henry Ruhnke, Principal of Wald Ruhnke & Dost, for working effectively with staff through some very difficult and complex issues; Pat Dyas, Manager of Housing & Community Development, for going above and beyond his job description in finding innovative and creative solutions in many program areas; and Teresa Morales for five years of service to the Housing Authority.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Commissioner York Gin for 35 years of service to the Housing Authority. Monterey County Supervisor, Lou Calcagno presented a Resolution on behalf of the County thanking Mr. Gin for his years of selfless sacrifice and public service.

The HACM provides a variety of housing and services to low and moderate income residents of Monterey County. Actively involved in a variety of collaborative efforts to address welfare reform and develop affordable housing across a range of incomes within the County of Monterey, the Housing Authority promotes the goals of economic development, self-sufficiency, family unification and community empowerment.
