Housing Authority Recognized by Department of Housing and Urban Development for Superior Maintenance of Public Housing Properties
SALINAS, Calif.--The Housing Authority of the County of Monterey has earned an overall score of 94.5 for maintenance of public housing units in Monterey County from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The inspection covered 15 properties of 694 public housing units throughout the County. Compared to past scores the Housing Authority has received, this score marks the highest in a continuing upward trend for property maintenance.
HUD rates all housing authorities across the nation in four major categories: physical condition, management, results from a resident satisfaction survey and financial management of the properties. An outside contractor hired by HUD conducted the physical condition inspection of all public housing properties over a two-week time period and their findings rated the Housing Authority of the County of Monterey high in maintaining these residential units with regard to health and safety issues. This inspection does not include the structural components of any building.
"This score recognizes the dedication of our staff to meet the needs of our residents and the community. We are thrilled that HUD supports the work we are doing by awarding such high scores. I'm very proud of all of our staff for their part in this achievement," said Jim Nakashima, executive director. "This score and the trend upward from the previous High Performer rating, demonstrates the Housing Authority's continued commitment to the proper maintenance of our properties and the safety of our clients."
The Housing Authority performs regular inspections of all its properties. This preventive maintenance assures that all electrical, mechanical and physical conditions are satisfactory and functioning properly.
