Housing Authority Recognized as National “high Performer” by Department of Housing and Urban Development
Annually HUD rates all Housing Authorities across the nation in four major categories: physical condition of the properties; management of the properties; resident satisfaction survey; and, financial management of the properties. An outside contractor hired by HUD, inspected all public housing properties and the Housing Authority of the County of Monterey was given the highest grade in all four categories — High Performer.
The physical condition inspection included the interior and exterior condition of the properties. HUD also inspected the management plan that ensures responsiveness to the needs of the community with regard to occupancy, vacancy turnaround, work order response time, and effective use of modernization funds.
"Even though these scores illustrate that we are meeting, and in some instances exceeding HUD guidelines, we are most proud of the fact that we are providing affordable housing opportunities to residents in Monterey County," said Jean Goebel, Director of Housing Management for the Housing Authority. "The Housing Authority is proud to be recognized as a 'High Performer' two years in a row. This ranking not only reflects hard work, but the dedication of our staff to meet the needs of our residents and the community, ultimately making Monterey County a better place to live."
The Housing Authority provides a variety of housing and services to qualifying residents of Monterey County. Actively involved in a number of collaborative efforts to bring affordable housing within Monterey County, the Housing Authority promotes the goals of economic development, self-sufficiency, family unification and community empowerment.
