Housing Authority of the County of Monterey is Hosting a Housing Symposium for Monterey County Landlords
The Housing Authority of the County of Monterey (HACM) is hosting two sessions of a symposium for Monterey County landlords to discuss the issues facing landlords and the opportunity to partner with the agency. The theme of the symposium is "We House People."
"'We house people' is what we do at the Housing Authority, it is the Housing Programs Department's mission that is aligned with the Housing Authority's mission. The goal of the symposium is to share what we do with landlords, the value and resources we can provide them, and how we can partner with them to house even more people," said Jonathan Campbell, Director of Housing Programs for HACM.
The symposium's identical sessions will be held on April 22, 2024, at Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) located at 980 Fremont Street in Monterey and on April 23, 2024, at Deja Blue located at 500 Broadway Avenue in Seaside. Parking at MPC will be available in lot D free of charge. Parking at Deja Blue will be in the lot adjacent to the restaurant.
The symposium will include a presentation outlining the connection between HACM, the Department of Housing and Urban Development and landlords, an overview of the housing crisis in Monterey County, information on how landlords can partner with HACM, and attendees will have the opportunity to hear from landlords who are currently HACM program participants. Both symposiums will held be from 10:00am to 4:00pm and the presentation will be the same at each location. A complimentary light lunch will be available.
Zulieka Boykin, Executive Director for the Housing Authority for County of Monterey said, "The Monterey County Housing Authority is proactively seeking to assist clients throughout the County. To make this a reality, we will have annual landlord symposiums held throughout the county to accommodate the population we serve. Next year, we plan on having an event in South County."

About Housing Authority of the County of Monterey
Created in 1941, The Housing Authority of the County or Monterey (HACM) is a locally controlled public agency that leverages funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and other sources to provide affordable housing and rental assistance to low-income families throughout Monterey County. HACM partners with a broad spectrum of community non-profits, city and county agencies, and state organizations to address affordable housing and housing shortage issues. The organization provides a variety of housing and services through: The Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8), Farm Labor Housing and Tax Credit and other affordable housing programs. HACM is the primary provider of rental assistance to low-income families throughout Monterey County, and currently serves 7,816 individuals through the Housing Choice Voucher Program. HACM also owns and manages affordable housing properties. HACM currently owns 11 properties and manages 55 properties. The total number of units is 1,274, which serves 9,076 county residents.
