Historic Wind Engine to Be Lifted Onto Millhouse at Harden Estate
SALINAS, Calif. - June 5, 2006 - After nearly three years of planning and restoration, a rare, turn-of-the-century wind engine will be lifted onto the restored millhouse at the Harden Estate in Salinas on Wednesday, June 7. A team of millwrights, carpenters, architects and engineers restored the over-a-century-old wind engine and millhouse as part of the Harden Foundation's restoration of its estate.

The Harden Foundation and a selected team of expert millwrights, architects, engineers, and carpentry specialists participated in the three-year restoration process.
WHAT:
**Lifting of restored Challenge Double Header Wind Engine
The Challenge Double Header Wind Engine, built in 1892 for Duncan McKinnon, will be lifted onto the restored millhouse at the Harden Estate. It is a masterpiece of Victorian engineering-a mighty windmill that supplied power to operate millstones, a grain elevator, water pump, and a woodworking shop.
