SAN DIEGO, Calif. - - Governor Gray Davis recognized Global Photon Systems, Inc. today in announcing the establishment of three new Institutes For Science and Innovation. Global Photon Systems, Inc. is one of several commercial companies contributing to the University of California San Diego and the University of California Irvine's California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology to be based in San Diego. The Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology will develop innovative new materials and devices designed to radically expand the capacities of communications infrastructure. Global Photon Systems, Inc. has pledged approximately $400,000 per year over the next four years in broadband services to the new institute.Global Photon Systems, Inc. Global Photon Systems, Inc. is proposing to build the Global West Network, an innovative fiberoptic cable, linking California coastal cities via a submarine route from San Diego to Morro Bay. The company uses an innovative fiberoptic cable that is inert in the marine environment and requires no electricity to transmit information. Lightwaves are the medium of transport. The Global West cable capacity is over 4 terabits, equal to all existing operational terrestrial based cables in California, the equivalent of 60 million telephone calls per second.Global Photon Systems, Inc.'s strategy in placing the one-inch diameter cable in the ocean is "route diversity", providing a safe alternative to the highly vulnerable based lines along the Highway 101/Interstate 5 corridor in earthquake-prone California. The State Lands Commission and the California Office of Emergency Services, seeking to increase telecom reliability have endorsed the Global West Network. Global Photon Systems, Inc. is financed by Deutsche Bank Securities, New York, and is partnered with the French company, ALCATEL, a world leader in the telecom and optical networks market.
