The Consulate General of Mexico in San Jose, California is pleased to announce to the community that Mexico's President Vicente Fox has decided to appoint Attorney Blanca Estela Zarazua as Honorary Consul to Mexico for Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

The recently appointed Honorary Consul was born in Carmel, California, in the county of Monterey. She earned her Masters of Business Administration degree from UC Berkeley and her Juris Doctorate degree from Santa Clara University. Ms. Zarazua has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1987.

The new Honorary Consul has a strong legal background and currently is affiliated with one of Monterey County's most prestigious law firms, Noland, Hamerly, Etienne & Hoss. Ms. Zarazua has served on the board of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley and has served as President and CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Monterey County.

For some time now Ms. Zarazua has offered her volunteer services in various community activities undertaken by the Consulate General of Mexico and she has also provided pro bono legal services to the Consulate General.

In her role as Honorary Consul, Attorney Zarazua shall have the responsibility of addressing issues involving Mexican citizens, as well as undertaking activities which will promote Mexico in the areas of commerce, culture and tourism.

This Thursday, March 13th, at 7:00 pm in the Irvine Auditorium of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, at 499 Pierce Street, in Monterey, California, Attorney Blanca Zarazua shall receive from Consul General Marco A. Alcazar symbolic effects as part of an investiture ceremony confirming her appointment as Honorary Consul to Mexico.
