Coastal Water Project Town Hall Meeting Planned in Moss Landing
Monterey, Calif. - March 14, 2005 - California American Water will hold a public town hall meeting to provide an update and answer questions concerning the Coastal Water Project. The Coastal Water Project includes a proposed desalination facility located near Duke Energy's Moss Landing Power Plant, aquifer storage recovery technology in the Seaside basin and conveyance facilities.
The Coastal Water Project is an environmentally-driven water supply project designed to meet the demands of the federal Endangered Species Act and the State Water Resources Control Board's Order 95-10, which restricts Carmel Valley Aquifer diversions and requires identification of additional water supply sources for the Monterey Peninsula. With participation from local government, the Coastal Water Project may also be expanded to serve regional needs under public ownership.
The meeting will include a presentation by project engineers, RBF Consulting, who will discuss the project description, preliminary costs and environmental issues among other topics. Coastal Water Project representatives will be available to address comments and questions from the public.
