City of Seaside to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony
MONTEREY, Calif.-What initially began as a private construction project, turned into a public-private partnership offering affordable housing to working families in the city of Seaside. The construction of San Pablo Court, consisting of 12 single story, single-family detached dwelling units, will be officially launched on Wednesday, September 1st, at a groundbreaking ceremony held by the City of Seaside at 10:30 a.m.
When the developers, Colonial Partners, LLC, filed the project applications in July of 2003, The City of Seaside's Redevelopment Agency recognized this as an opportunity to provide affordable housing to families in Seaside. Utilizing tax funds collected through the years, the Agency will purchase the development for $5.4 million after construction is completed by Ausonio, Incorporated, the project designer and construction manager. The estimated completion date is April 30, 2005.
The housing units will front private streets, sharing a small common park area with visitor parking. Four of the units are to be built for "very low to low income" families. Two of these units will offer 931 square feet with two bedrooms and one bath, while the other two units will offer 1,242 square feet with three bedrooms and two baths. The eight "moderate income" units will offer 1,309 square feet with three bedrooms and two baths. Specific application requirements will be developed and approved by the Redevelopment Agency by early next year.
