The City of Gonzales was honored by the Monterey County Business Council (MCBC) at the 28th Annual Gala and Community Builder Awards on Friday, April 26th at The Inn at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach.

At this year's gala the MCBC honored and highlighted "Community Builders" who have played a pivotal role in making a positive impact through housing initiatives. Gonzales was the recipient of the government category award and was recognized for the leadership shown by the city toward developing a housing plan to address the evolving needs of the community, while fostering responsible growth.

"Gonzales' vision for the future foresees a healthy, engaged population, living in a community with ample housing and job opportunities.  The city has spent years developing plans, policies, and guidelines that promote smart growth and sustainable solutions for adding much-needed new housing in our city.  It was an honor to be recognized for our efforts," said City Manager Carmen Gil.

Gonzales joined six other businesses in Monterey County who were also honored at the event as "Community Builders":

  • Agriculture - Avila Construction
  • Education - Salinas Union High School District
  • Nonprofit - Community Human Services
  • Creative & Innovation - Monterey Peninsula Unified School District
  • Sustainable Building & Design - Rancho Cielo
  • Lifetime Achievement Award - Pete Scudder

The award is the second MCBC award the City of Gonzales has received from the MCBC.  The city received an award in 2017 at the MCBC Economic Vitality Awards Gala. The 2017 gala honored organizations that had contributed to the economic vitality, growth, and preservation of the community.

The MCBC, founded in 1995, is a non-profit organization comprised of professionals from business, government, and education working together on countywide issues.  Key areas of focus include workforce development, economic development, and advocacy.
