Choice Home Health Care Makes the Grade in New Medicare Study
Monterey, Ca. - Choice Home Health Care ranks among the best in providing quality service to its patients, according to a report released on November 3,2003, by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The study, which focused on quality-service measures for Medicare-certified home-health-care providers, compared agencies to others within their region, state and nationally. Results were based on the physical and mental health of patients, and whether or not their ability to perform basic tasks is maintained or improved while under the agency's care.
As part of a new federal home-health-care initiative, the study was conducted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services-a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-to provide consumers and their families more information about the quality of care provided by individual home health agencies across the nation. Quality gages available included: four measures related to patient improvement in getting around; four measures related to meeting the patient's activities of daily living; two measures related to patient medical emergencies; and one measure related to improvement in patient mental health.
"We are committed to providing quality care for our patients. The statistics prove, what we have known, that we provide a very high quality of in-home health care services," said Margarite Alvarez, CEO of Choice Home Health Care. " What is most rewarding, however, is to recognize the improvement in our patients, many of which would not regain their independence without our care."
Choice Home Health Care, which provides skilled nursing, rehab therapies, medical social work and in-home supportive services, was included in the survey along with other local in-home healthcare service providers.
"Choice Home Health Care's average patient age is in the mid 80s. We accept many high risk or highly complex cases," said Alverez. "It is a wonderful testimonial to Choice Home Health Care nursing and therapy professionals, that we scored well above average, especially in relation to other local agencies whose demographics may be more mixed."
