Carmel Hills Care Center Hosts Annual “SNF Olympics” in Celebration of National Skilled Nursing Care Week
In celebration of National Skilled Nursing Care Week, observed May 11-17, 2025, Carmel Hills Care Center is proud to announce its 9th Annual Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Olympics—affectionately dubbed the "SNF (pronounced Sniff) Olympics"—taking place Tuesday, May 13th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Carmel Hills Care Center. This spirited event brings together 30-40 staff members for a series of Olympic-style challenges inspired by the everyday work and life experiences within a skilled nursing facility.
Designed to highlight the crucial, compassionate work done in skilled nursing facilities—and to deepen empathy for the residents who rely on these services—the SNF Olympics is more than just fun and games.
"The SNF Olympics is more than just a fun event—it's a chance for our staff to come together, build camaraderie, and gain deeper insight into the daily experiences of our residents," said Jarrod Christensen, Administrator at Carmel Hills Care Center. "It's an opportunity to strengthen staff relationships, enhance the exercising of our core values of compassion and respect, and honor the dedication of skilled nursing professionals."
Event highlights include:
Wheelchair Obstacle Course: Staff members will navigate a wheelchair course, experiencing firsthand the physical challenges many residents face each day. This lighthearted challenge also aims to foster empathy and appreciation for mobility limitations.
Hospital Bed-Making Challenge: A timed competition that underscores infection control measures and the physical skill required to make a bed to clinical standards—no fluffing or shortcuts allowed.
Food Delivery & Resident Service Challenge: Participants will wear gloves and vision-impairing goggles while navigating an uneven course with a meal tray. This simulates common physical impairments and highlights the importance of patience and precision in caregiving.
Commode Toss: A light-hearted competition where participants attempt to toss a roll of toilet paper into a bedside commode—offering comic relief and a nod to the lighter side of healthcare work.
Prizes will be awarded to winners of each event, and informal scoring will track performance throughout the afternoon.
This event is part of the national Skilled Nursing Care Week celebration, held annually since 1967 and always begins on Mother's Day. The observance is sponsored by the American Health Care Association and celebrates the essential role skilled nursing care centers play in providing high-quality, long-term and post-acute care to millions of individuals each year across the country.
Photo and interview opportunities will be available. For more information about the SNF Olympics or to schedule a media visit, please call 831-372-2259.
