Canterbury Woods Awarded Three Distinctions

Recognized for Quality Environment and Care Provided to Residents and Employees

June 15, 2010
Pacific Grove, California - June 15, 2010 - Canterbury Woods has recently been recognized for its accomplishments in providing the highest quality care and the best working environment through its receiving of three awards in two months: Medicare's 5 Star Rating, Best-In-Class Nursing Home and Best Places to Work in the Bay Area 2010.

Canterbury Woods is one of only two skilled living and rehab facilities in Monterey County with a Medicare 5 Star Rating and became the first facility in the county to receive the 5 Star rating in 2008. The Medicare 5 Star Rating is awarded by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and is the highest rating available. Canterbury Woods' overall 5 Star Rating is based on a combination of its health inspection, staffing and quality measures ratings.

Best-In-Class Nursing Home was awarded by My InnerView, an independent research company that conducts surveys of nursing care facilities across the country to collect data on customer and employee satisfaction. In order to receive the Best-In-Class recognition, employees and residents had to rate Canterbury Woods in highest 10% throughout a series of survey questions regarding care and relationships. Only 519 care facilities from across the country, an average of 10 per state, received the Best-In-Class award this year.

Last, but definitely not least, Canterbury Woods, along with its four sister care facilities under Episcopal Senior Communities, was named in the Silicon Valley Business Journal's Best Places to Work in the Bay Area 2010. The winners were determined after some 147,261 employees (number reported by the Business Journal) responded to 37 multiple choice questions covering nine categories relating to their place of employment. This is the first year Canterbury Woods has been voted for this honor.

Canterbury Woods is a continuing care residential community (CCRC) in Pacific Grove, founded in 1965. It is operated by Episcopal Senior Communities, a senior community operator focused on providing senior living opportunities for every level of income and freedom. Canterbury Woods is home to approximately 170 residents and has over 100 staff members. It hosts a number of community events and special events for its residents and employees throughout the year. Canterbury Woods and its residents are active members of the community, giving back with an average 20,000 hours of volunteer work per year.
