MONTEREY, Calif. - April 17, 2006 - Free family entertainment and activities will highlight the 3rd Annual Cannery Row Block Party on Sunday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local residents and visitors are invited to enjoy music, dance, and magic at three main venues. Many Cannery Row merchants will offer special discounts during the festivities, and KOCN will broadcast live from the American Tin Cannery.

A children's stage in Bubba Gump Plaza will present magicians Farrell Dillon and Mr. Miraculous, family favorite musical performer Oren & the Hiccups, and a Hula Hoop contest, while SpongeBob SquarePants and Bubbles the Clown entertain kids offstage. For hands-on fun, the American Tin Cannery and 700 Building (between Bubba Gump and Steinbeck Plaza) will be hosting family activities such as face painting and crafts.

In Steinbeck Plaza, the whole family can enjoy the Cajun and Zydeco sounds of the Cachagua Playboys, the smooth riffs of Andrea's Fault jazz trio, and the Red Beans & Rice blues band. This stage will also feature a Ghirardelli ice cream sundae-eating contest. Nearby at the American Tin Cannery, African drummers and belly dancers perform, as well as the elaborately decorated Monterey Bay Lion Dance Team, appearing in different locations throughout the day.

Block Party guests are also invited to collect "Cannery Row Credentials" in a passport-style stamp booklet by visiting five different Cannery Row buildings, and then enter a drawing with the possibility of winning one of 11 prizes. No purchase is necessary to collect Credentials.

The 3rd Annual Cannery Row Block Party is free to the public. A welcome booth in Steinbeck Plaza will provide visitors with Credentials booklets and a schedule of activities. For additional information, please call 831-644-9359 or visit www.canneryrow.com
