World-wide Launch of Movie Featuring Surfing Champ Kelly Slater to Offer View in to the Universe of Ocean Waves
Featuring nine-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater, Ultimate Wave Tahiti will immerse audiences in the story of an ocean wave and the lives it impacts and transforms. From astounding 3D surfing action to the chaos of ocean storms, the film leads audiences on a quest to understand one of this planet's most intriguing and dramatic phenomena.
Action in the movie focuses on Tahiti and the volcanic islands of French Polynesia, home to some of the world's most challenging surfing and to astounding coral reef ecosystems at the turbulent interface between island and ocean. The islands are also a homeland of the Polynesian seafaring culture and the surfing art integral to the film.
Filmed in 3D 15/70 large format for IMAX giant screen theatres, Ultimate Wave Tahiti is more than a culturally rich surf film. It is a breakthrough demonstration of how people around the world can understand and appreciate the majesty of the ocean environment and the critical role waves play in our complicated and threatened ecosystem.
In this pioneering ocean science film, director Stephen Low and surfing legend Kelly Slater use the latest Giant Screen camera technologies and proven story-telling cinematic skills to shape an educational look into, under and through the liquid energy that creates a wave.
With dynamic film sequences and innovative computer animation, Low and his production team introduce the viewing audience to a gallery of real and animated waves. Using the wave insights and daring skills of Slater and his surfing partner Raimana Von Bastolaer, this is the first 3D IMAX film to explain wave science and serves as the high-water mark for ocean-centric environmental education that excites and entertains with all the energy of a crushing swell colliding with a Tahitian reef.
