Monterey, Calif. – March 16, 2010 – Environmentally conscious diners now have two additional restaurants where they can feel confident about the choices they are making in their food selection. Café Fina and Domenico's on the Wharf, both on Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf, have now joined the Seafood Watch Restaurant Program.

"We have always been very mindful of the seafood we serve in our restaurants, and it is an honor to be added to the Seafood Watch Restaurant Program", says owner Dominic Mercurio. Sam Mercurio, co-owner of Domenico's on Wharf adds, "from spending years in commercial fishing, I have a great respect for ocean wildlife and believe it is of great importance to protect it."

The Mercurio family has been fishing and purchasing sustainable seafood long before it became the growing trend. Café Fina and Domenico's on the Wharf offer handline Pacific Swordfish, wild caught Alaskan salmon and Alaskan king crab, sardines from the Monterey Bay, Australian lobster and other sustainable seafood options.

Restaurants accepted into the Seafood Watch Restaurant Program have had their fishing and seafood purchasing practices reviewed by program staff. By being part of the Seafood Watch Restaurant Program, Café Fina and Domenico's on the Wharf pledge to continue their practice of not serving items from Seafood Watch's "avoid" list and to train the waiting staff about seafood choices. It enables diners to know that the food selections they make at the two restaurants are brought to the table through sustainable, environmentally friendly means.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program started in 1999 and is part of a wider sustainable seafood movement, encouraging major seafood buyers and consumers to embrace ocean-friendly alternatives to their seafood selections.
