Bullying Expert to Speak at Santa Catalina School September 27
Best-selling Author Jodee Blanco Has Prevented Suicides and School Bombings
MONTEREY, CALIF. - September 25, 2006 - Santa Catalina School has invited a national expert on bullying to talk to the school and community Wednesday, September 27, at 7:00 PM. Jodee Blanco will give a free seminar titled It's NOT Just Joking Around!(TM)-a ground-breaking program designed to enlighten students, teachers, and parents alike on the ramifications of bullying in our schools. Blanco is the author of the New York Times best-seller Please Stop Laughing at Me..., and will sign books after the seminar.
Endorsed by the National Crime Prevention Council and the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Blanco's seminar will address specific topics regarding school bullying, including: why certain children become the most popular kids in their class, and others are picked on and tormented; the biggest mistakes parents unwittingly make; the surprising elements that school bullying and social prejudice have in common; why so many adults fail to recognize the trauma of peer abuse until it's too late; and how schools can prevent disaster.
A survivor of bullying herself, Blanco grew up to realize that peer-abuse is a terrible reality of millions of students that is too often dismissed as kids being kids. She also came to understand that the qualities that made her a teen misfit would become the very reasons for her success as an adult. Today she is regularly sought after as a crisis management expert and consultant by schools, families, legal professionals, government officials, and the national media including CNN, Newsweek, NBC, and FOX, to help America understand the emotional reasons behind the behavior of American students. In the last year alone, she and her team successfully intervened in sixteen suicides and averted a school bombing.
The seminar will take place in the Performing Arts Center at Santa Catalina School and is presented by the Santa Catalina School Service League and Sister Carlotta Legacy Fund in conjunction with All Saints' Day School.
