Barnyard Shopping Village Puts Its Best Foot Forward

March 1, 2006
Aesthetic improvements to invigorate unique village feel and enhance shopping and dining experiences

Carmel, Calif. - March 1, 2006 - After careful consideration and thoughtful analysis, the Barnyard Shopping Village's management team is announcing plans to repair parking grounds and visually enhance and protect the establishment's nine barns. Aesthetic upgrades will involve distinguishing the barns by use of unique color schemes that identify one barn from another. The utilization of staining hues that consist of muted reds, dusty blues, olive greens and cocoa tans will highlight the individual character of each barn, while existing trim colors will visually link each barn to fully integrate the Barnyard's village theme.

The staining process and parking lot work will begin on or around March 6th and be completed by May 29, 2006. All shops and restaurants will remain open and uninhibited during the staining project. The Barnyard, its 49 local merchants and the community will celebrate the fresh new look at the Barnyard's 17th Annual Art & Wine Festival scheduled for June 17, 2006.

"The new color schemes will boast the character and individuality of each barn, while strengthening the village feel," Barnyard general manager, Stephanie Scholderer said. "The Barnyard is excited to revive community interest in rediscovering the specialty goods, services and diverse cuisine offered by our shops, galleries and restaurants."

Before deciding on appropriate upgrades, the Barnyard researched local history and culture to incorporate earth, ocean and artistic elements of Carmel's Bohemian founders. Based on this research, the Barnyard selected a color specialist, Bob Buckter, whose work has been recognized nationally, for its historic preservation and community minded qualities. Local paint manufacturer, Kelly Moore, will work in unison with Carmel's TNT Painting, Inc, by using a clean, modern, staining procedure to color and protect the Barnyard's wooden exterior.  All work will be performed within EPA standard guidelines.

The Barnyard received encouragement from local government to update the Barnyard's appearance and to ensure parking facilities are as safe as possible. Parking changes will include smoothing uneven surfaces, darkening faded parking lines and adding ADA parking stalls where necessary.

"We are striving to raise the public's perception of the Barnyard so that the business of our local merchants thrives," Scholderer said. "The Barnyard has a legacy that will continue to flourish. There is immense pride in what the Barnyard offers to our local community and visitors, and we are dedicated to the care and maintenance of the Barnyard's unparalleled environment."
