Barnyard New Stop on Mst's Carmel Valley-Grapevine Express
Carmel, Calif. - May 10, 2006 - The Barnyard Shopping Village is a new stop on the Monterey-Salinas Transit's (MST) Carmel Valley-Grapevine Express. After a successful start last October and November, the Grapevine Express will begin year-round service Friday through Sunday on May 27 with the new Barnyard stop located between Khakis Men's Clothier of Carmel and Allegro Gourmet Pizzeria.
"The Barnyard is excited to participate in this safe and affordable transportation option for our guests," said Stephanie Scholderer, General Manager of the Barnyard. "It offers an enjoyable weekend activity for visitors and residents looking to experience the wonderful culture and wines offered in Carmel Valley and at the Barnyard Shopping Village."
With the new stop, passengers on the Grapevine Express can enjoy the Barnyard's 50 merchants that include art galleries, restaurants and specialty boutiques. Wine and beer lovers will delight in a visit to the Bountiful Basket, a Barnyard merchant featuring specialty wines, a boutique brewery, wine accessories, and a "Meet the Winemaker" series every Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. The Bountiful Basket also offers 101 oils and vinegars from around the world, gourmet gift baskets and a wine and beer tasting bar. They will offer artisan cheese and wine pairings starting this summer.
The Carmel Valley-Grapevine Express will circulate the entire route (beginning at Cannery Row and ending in Carmel Valley Village) in one-hour intervals, allowing customers to return to downtown Monterey at any time. All-day transportation passes for the Grapevine Express are $4.50 with a special rate of $2.25 for senior and the disabled. Summer hours for the 17-passenger van will began at 10 a.m. and continue in one-hour intervals until 10:00 p.m., Friday through Sunday.
The Barnyard Shopping Village, built in Carmel in 1976, is a landmark on the Monterey Peninsula, featuring 50 merchants ranging from boutique shops, restaurants, office spaces, salons and art galleries. Owned by SIMA Barnyard, LLC and managed by SIMA Corporation, the Barnyard hosts many open-air events in its courtyards and is a popular meeting place for the community.
