American Tin Cannery Welcomes California Wineries

Cannery Row Visitors Love Wine Tasting and California Wines

July 6, 2006
PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. - July 6, 2006 - Wine tasting is a favorite pastime of visitors to Cannery Row, and now the American Tin Cannery invites wineries to open tasting bars in its beautiful seaside locale. The American Tin Cannery features some of Cannery Row's best shopping and dining, just steps away from the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, visited by two million people a year.

The rising popularity of wines from Monterey County has helped make wine-tasting one of the region's top tourist activities. A good litmus test for the number of wine consumers visiting Cannery Row is "A Taste of Monterey"-a store and tasting room that stays busy year-round and sends visitors home with cases of special wine finds from Monterey County.

This convergence of wine lovers on Cannery Row makes the American Tin Cannery an ideal venue for wine-tasting bars featuring wines from California's other premiere wine regions-from the Santa Ynez Valley and Paso Robles, to Mendocino, Santa Rosa, and Napa.

The majority of the four million annual visitors to Cannery Row come from areas where California wines enjoy wide distribution, such as Northern and Southern California and the western United States. An outpost on Cannery Row translates into access to millions of wine consumers who can bolster awareness and brand demand when they return home. These savvy travelers love discovering new wines and Californian appellations to share with their friends.

Fine dining and fine wine go hand and hand, and visitors to the Monterey Bay Area and Cannery Row also come seeking out some of the world's best restaurants. Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur feature one of the highest concentrations in the country of Mobil and Zagat-recommended restaurants with a bounty of Wine Spectator awards for excellence as well as Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRoNA) designations. The same visitors who frequent the best dining establishments frequent Monterey Bay Area tasting rooms, where they recognize and appreciate a great bottle of wine.

In 1926, the American Can Company opened its sprawling sardine can production plant a short distance over the Pacific Grove city line. The factory produced a purported 26 million cans in its first season of operation, going on to dominate the can supply industry. Today the American Tin Cannery boasts great shopping, dining, and an 80-foot "History Wall" at the edge of historic Cannery Row. The American Tin Cannery is located at 125 Ocean View Boulevard, across from the sea in Pacific Grove. For more information visit www.americantincannery.com or call (831) 372-1442.
