A New Look for the Barnyard Shopping Village
Carmel, Calif. - July 15, 2005 - Dramatic changes are underway at the Barnyard Shopping Village, Carmel's most distinguished shopping destination. Renowned for beautifully maintained gardens, exquisite shopping and fine dinning, the revitalization plans include many aesthetic and accessibility improvements.
The Barnyard is owned by SIMA Corporation, a Santa Barbara based real estate investment firm with a unique commitment to creating distinctive, vibrant customer experiences. SIMA owns and operates more than $400 million in commercial and residential property across the United States, including many historic properties along Santa Barbara's famed State Street. El Paseo, the most renowned State Street shopping destination, was meticulously restored by SIMA with the guidance of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historical Preservation.
SIMA's plan for the Barnyard includes the addition of outdoor gardens and a patio seating area with a gas fireplace, copper gutters and eaves, teak benches and improved ADA restrooms. Renovations also will include the replacement of barn roofs and skylights, restoration of stairs and walkways, new exterior lighting, repainting and artistic stenciling and mosaic tile work. Buildings, walkways, parking lots, gardens, stone patios and business entries will be redesigned, enhancing the architectural appearance of the buildings and grounds. The Barnyard is utilizing the services of local designers to create new sign designs, artistic details and to improve aesthetic appeal and functionality of the existing buildings and grounds. The project is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of summer.
Many community events are held at the Barnyard Shopping Village, including a weekly Farmers Market, SPCA Adoptions, an annual Art & Wine Festival, Concerts in the Gardens, the Ferrari Festival, Oktoberfest, Halloween Trick or Treating and the Gallery Gala.
