PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.-Forty-nine students at Stevenson School in Pebble Beach have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college level Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Stevenson Students took AP exams in May 2002 after completing challenging college-level courses. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of year-long courses and exams (or equivalent semester-long courses and exams).

The College Board's Advanced Placement program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school and to receive college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the end-of-course AP exams. Almost 14 percent of the more than 900,000 high school students in 14,000 secondary schools worldwide who took the AP exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.

Casey Grover, a graduate in the class of 2002, qualified for the National AP Scholar award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a 5-point scale on all AP exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Fifteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five of these exams. These students are: Travis Arnold, Andrew Carlson, Michael Chan, Chante Condit-Pottol, Katrina Cornell, Cora Gorman, Casey Grover, Daniel Keum, Gregory Kieckhefer, Eugene Lee, William Niebling, Morgan Sellers, Joshua Soros, Catharine Stuart and William Verlenden.

Fourteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four of these exams. These students are: Sophia Albov, Laurel Albrecht, Nicolas Barcelo, Benedikt Bringewald, Kevin Chen, Laura Fishman, Janet Lee, John Minelli, Todd Myer, Samantha Olson, Alison Rothberg, Emily Su, Frank Susi and Brody Wixted.

Nineteen students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP exams with grades of 3 or higher. These AP Scholars are: Nicholas Arger, Sophie Bennett, Michael Factor, Ross Garren, Sarah Geiss-Trusz, Gerran Ho, Sarah Jamison, Candi Kao, Omar Katili-Niode, Willy Lee, Elisabeth Pinkerton, Megan Segal, Michael Silberman, Stefanie Smith, Jamie Staples, Frances Thompson, Jason Trapp, Gena Yurkovich and Alicia Zupic.
