Shelter Outreach Plus Welcomes Teresa Erickson and Cris Cabanillas to the Board of Directors
New board members add experience and leadership to Board
MONTEREY, CALIF. –Shelter Outreach Plus, Monterey County's leader in ending the cycle of homelessness and domestic violence, is pleased to welcome two outstanding community leaders to its Board of Directors: Teresa Erickson and Cristofer Cabanillas.
Erickson is a dedicated and enthusiastic leader who came to Shelter Outreach after almost a decade in senior management positions with Central Coast VNA & Hospice. Erickson is a seasoned manager with the ability to process and recommend new strategies in changing healthcare environment. She is a physical therapist by training and experienced in non-profits, elder care, healthcare, underserved populations and program development. She is particularly passionate about geriatric patient care.
Alongside her husband who pastors the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Monterey, the couple has put together a unique outreach program for homeless men and women in their church, which helps house men and women as well as provide a special worship service designed for homeless and street individuals less comfortable with traditional worship services.
Cristofer Cabanillas is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ with Petersen & Ramistella, LLC, managing a portfolio of over $130 million annually. Cabanillas grew up in San Diego and has lived in Monterey County for over five years. He is a member of the Monterey Rotary Club and is a trustee for the International School of Monterey, overseeing financial and legal affairs for its Board. Cabanillas was a graduating member of the Leadership Monterey Peninsula Class of 2006, for which he helped establish a financial literacy program for students. Cabanillas joins Shelter Outreach Plus as the treasurer, replacing Eric Johnsen who was appointed President in July 2011.
The addition of these new board members comes on the heels another sound fiscal year for Shelter Outreach Plus, due to effective management and its unique operational organization. The organization shares back office responsibilities with Central Coast HIV/AIDS Services, which helps both non-profits operate smoothly and efficiently.

Shelter Outreach Plus provides safe housing, compassionate support and opportunities for self-sufficiency through outreach, emergency shelter, transitional housing and supportive services for individuals experiencing homelessness and victims of domestic violence. Through many decades of providing effective local services to people in crisis and in partnership with other non-profits serving the needs of Monterey County, Shelter Outreach Plus serves over 2,000 people annually. The organization oversees the well-known I-Help program, which partners with over sixty churches throughout Monterey County to house 25-30 homeless men each night, providing dinner and breakfast as well as clothing and other needed supplies.
