MONTEREY, CALIF.- The Shake Family thanks the Monterey Peninsula for their donations and participation in the Sabu Shake, Sr. Memorial annual fundraisers. The yearly Sabu Safari held in October at the Portola Hotel & Spa and the Sabu Shake Sr. Memorial Holiday fundraiser collected $130,423.00. The Shake Family established the annual fundraisers as a memorial to honor the legacy left by Sabu Shake, Sr. who embraced the values of compassion and generosity to others. A total of over $636,958.00 has been raised since the fundraisers began in 1999.

According to Major Dave Yardley of the Salvation Army, the demands for basic needs – food, shelter, housing and financial assistance – continues at high levels, as the economy has impacted so many in the community during these trying economic times. The money donated to the Salvation Army helps the Monterey Peninsula Corps provide hot meals through the Homeless Feeding Program, food boxes, rental assistance, and nights of lodging through their two housing programs.

Although the Shake Family fundraisers for the Salvation Army are over for the season, the Salvation Army always appreciates and needs donations to address the continually growing needs of our community.  For ways to contribute to our local Salvation Army, visit www.tsamonterey.com.
