Santa Cruz, Calif. - March 19, 2009 - At a time when businesses and individuals are encouraged to support the local community and take value in the unique qualities Santa Cruz has to offer, one local establishment is turning its halls and open areas to feature a variety of art mediums crafted by local Santa Cruz artists.

Chaminade Resort & Spa decided to highlight local artists to recognize the gifts of those in the community while providing a place for everyone to view the talent hidden among the many that call Santa Cruz home. The inspiration came from Mike Butler, Controller of Chaminade, local artist himself and Board Treasurer of the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County. "Since I have a passion for the arts, we thought it would be a great idea to support the community by organizing a way for local artists to display and promote their work", said Butler.

Norbert Relecker, Chaminade's General Manager, loved the idea and immediately began moving forward with the project. "This is a great opportunity to show our support and bring the community together", he said.

Chaminade currently features three local artists, to which others will soon be added. The art is for sale and will be rotated throughout the year to host new creative works and local artists. The current artists include Butler, a wood sculptor, Therese Baisinger, a glass artist, and Bob Kinzie, a ceramic stoneware artist.
