Registered Nurses at Natividad Medical Center Achieve Certification in Diabetes Education
Jose Gasca, BSN, RN and Bertha Ramirez, BSN, RN Certified by National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators
"The staff of the Natividad Medical Center are proud of this accomplishment," said Chesney Hoagland-Fuchs, BSN, RN, CDE, the Diabetes Education Program Coordinator for Natividad Medical Center. "We are pleased that the entire staff of our Diabetes Education Center are now all Certified Diabetes Educators."
Health care professionals must meet rigorous eligibility requirements in order to be able to take the Certification Exam for Diabetes Educators. The Certified Diabetes Educator ("CDE" ®) credential demonstrates that the certified health care professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality care for persons with diabetes. The purpose of the NCBDE certification program is to conduct certification activities in a manner that upholds standards for competent practice in diabetes self-management education.
In addition to treating in-patients with diabetes, the Diabetes Education Center at Natividad provides services to the community including diabetes self management education, monthly support groups in both English and Spanish in Salinas and Greenfield, and diabetes prevention for families through the Healthy Families program.
