MONTEREY, CA - August 28, 2008 - The Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay has announced the retirement of its General Manager Robert DeVoe, who has been employed by the hotel for the past 15 years. DeVoe began his 30-year career with the Doubletree Hotel Corporation on October 26, 1979 in Seattle, Washington, managing Doubletree Hotels, Conference Centers and Resorts in Scottsdale Arizona, Denver, Colorado, St. Louis, Missouri, and Palm Springs, California before settling in Monterey in 1994.

As general manager of the Doubletree, Monterey now Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay, DeVoe's responsibilities included the overall revenue development, profitability and successful management of the destination resort. Most recently, he led the staff of 350 employees through the transition, remodel and renovation of the hotel to the 369 guest rooms and 10 executive suites. DeVoe, along with designers and owners, Peter Bidstrup and James Grier, also led the design and oversaw the renovation of the new, expanded 5,000 plus square foot Spa on the Plaza and exercise facility.

DeVoe has been actively involved in the leadership of many local organizations and currently serves as Chairman for the Board of Directors for the Monterey Peninsula Airport District. He has held leadership positions with the State Theater Preservation Group, the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Monterey County Overall Economic Development Commission. He has also devoted time to the Monterey Peninsula Visitors and Convention Bureau, Business Education Association of Monterey, Monterey County Hospitality Association, Monterey County Travel and Tourism Alliance, and the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.

Committed to the community, DeVoe was instrumental in the consolidation of the Monterey County Travel and Tourism Alliance and the Monterey Peninsula Visitor and Convention Bureau. As a result of his dedication to the business community, Bob was the recipient of the 2001 Robert C. Littlefield Award from the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. He is also a past recipient of the Doubletree Corporations "General Manager of the Year" and has been recognized with awards for his community involvement in both St. Louis, Missouri, and Palm Springs, California.
