MOSS LANDING, CALIF. – Moss Landing Water, LLC has changed its name to Moss Landing Desal to describe directly the operation of the recently formed company and, to cooperate with the Pajaro Sunny Mesa Community Services District's desire to change the name of the Moss Landing Harbor Water System to Moss Landing Water System.

Brent Constantz, Ph.D., Calera Corporation founder and partner in Moss Landing Desal, announced that Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML) and Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) have agreed to provide data from the deep water canyon adjacent to Moss Landing. "There are lots of synergetic interests between Moss Landing Desal and the engineering and marine science community based in Moss Landing," Constantz said. The agreement of cooperation is greatly appreciated as the research conducted by both institutions is contributing to Moss Landing Desal's project description and cost estimates.

Scott Jackson, Managing Partner of Telesto Consulting Group, LLC, a partner in Moss Landing Desal stated, "Our engineering team is truly benefiting in our planning through cooperation and data that is being provided by both MLML and MBARI."

Stan Lueck, CEO of Desal America, a partner in Moss Landing Desal stated, "One of the most obvious benefits to the Desal project is the existing infrastructure of 30 million gallons of water storage and pipe already in place under Highway 1 and Moss Landing Island which represents approximately 60 to 70 million dollars in value. Not having to build out new storage nor disrupt traffic patterns by utilizing pipe infrastructure makes the Moss Landing Commercial Park site the most cost effective place to build a facility which can supply regional needs."

Moss Landing Desal will draw deep water from the Monterey Submarine Canyon to Moss Landing for desalination. Moss Landing is a unique location because of its proximity to one of the deepest submarine canyons in the world, which provides near-shore access to deep water, avoiding the problems associated with drawing from shallow, near-shore water for desalination. The MontereySubmarine Canyon drops to over 270 meters depth directly off Moss Landing Harbor. Utilizing water at this depth minimizes the effect on the marine environment.
