Monterey Institute Hosts 21 Fulbright Scholars
Believed to be the most Fulbright scholars per capita of any school in the nation
With a total enrollment of approximately 800 students, the Monterey Institute certainly has the most Fulbrighters per capita on the West Coast and arguably the most per capita in the country according to a senior staff member at the Institute of International Education.
The Institute's Fulbright scholars, who hail from Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Iraq, Laos, Mexico, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka and the United States, add an irreplaceable component to the thriving academic environment and global, cross-cultural perspective for which the Institute is known around the world.
The Fulbright Program operates in over 155 countries and has been in existence since 1946. The Fulbright Program is an international educational exchange program sponsored by the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Each year, 7,500 new grants are awarded to scholars worldwide based on academic and professional records, language preparation, feasibility of the project or course of study, personal qualifications and preference factors established by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) and the Fulbright Commissions. The selection is highly competitive and it is considered a great academic achievement to have the title of Fulbright Scholar.
