Monterey Institute Celebrates Class of 2009 and New President

Sunder Ramaswamy to be inaugurated as 13th president while 299 students receive Master's Degrees

MONTEREY, Calif. - May 12, 2009 - The Monterey Institute of International Studies will recognize the achievements of its graduating students in a commencement ceremony scheduled for May 16th. Saturday's ceremony will also highlight the inauguration of the 13th president of the Institute, Sunder Ramaswamy.

The Commencement ceremony will celebrate the Institute's 299 Spring 2009 graduates. Honorary degrees will also be awarded to U.S. Congressman Sam Farr of Monterey and Ambassador Nabil Fahmy. Congressman Farr is from Monterey and is a Monterey Institute graduate. Ambassador Fahmy, former Egyptian Ambassador to the United States, is both the Commencement keynote speaker as well as the Chair of the new Middle East Nonproliferation Project at the Institute's James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies.
