Historic Model of Old Cannery Row Now on Display at Monterey Maritime & History Museum

MONTEREY, Calif. - March 3, 2008 - The Cannery Row Foundation, in association with the Monterey Maritime & History Museum is thrilled to announce the exhibition of the historic Model of Old Cannery Row (1943-1946). The model, which was 13 years in the making, was constructed by Cannery Row Foundation member Bill Johnk, a master historic model builder who lived upstairs in the Wing Chong Market in the 1960s.

On loan from the Oakland Museum of California as an extended exhibit, the model will serve as the centerpiece for the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Cannery Row Foundation. Most of the book "Cannery Row" by John Steinbeck happened in this model of Old Ocean View Avenue, which was officially changed to Cannery Row 50 years ago.

The Monterey Maritime & History Museum is located at 5 Portola Plaza, near Fisherman's Warf and is opened from 10:00AM to 5:00PM everyday but Monday.
