MONTEREY, CALIF. – February is now Scallop Month at Domenico's on the Wharf, and to celebrate, succulent Weathervane Scallops are fresh on the menu. Straight from Alaska to your plate, these scallops are served five delectable ways. Seafood Alfredo, Cioppino, Bouillabaisse and the Day Boat Wild Sea Scallops are all wonderful dishes that will treat your taste buds. The locals' and chef's choice is scallops wrapped in charbroiled bacon served over a bed of savory pearl pasta with red and yellow sweet peppers, cucumber, shallots and a hint of lemon that will have you asking for seconds.

Weathervane scallops, unlike other species of scallop that attach themselves to rocks and hard surfaces, live on the ocean floor's soft sand. Weathervane scallops move about the ocean by swimming. This swimming action is accomplished by the scallops' shells snapping together, which forces the water to propel it forward. This technique has develops the scallop into an oversized muscle called the "eye." This sweet-flavored flesh is the only part of the scallop that is typically found in markets and served in dining establishments.
