Award distinguishes Choice in the top 25 percent of Medicare-Certified agencies; Choice is the only three-time winner in Monterey County

November 4, 2010

MONTEREY, CALIF.– Locally owned Choice Home Health Care has won the HomeCare Elite award distinguishing it in the top 25 percent of Medicare-Certified home health agencies based on data from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). In its fifth year, this market-leading rating system measures quality of care, patient improvement and financial performance. Choice Home Health Care has won the HomeCare Elite award three times (2006, 2009 and 2010) and is the only Monterey County agency ever recognized for this award.

"I am so thrilled that my highly skilled clinical staff as well as the fabulous in-house support staff have been recognized again for the hard work they do in this community. I believe that the best business practice is providing the best care for your patients," said Margarite Alvarez, owner and CEO of Choice Home Health Care.

The data for the HomeCare Elite award is based on publicly available information through Home Health Compare, a Medicare website dedicated to providing patients and their families information about home health agencies.

"Many people don't realize this information is out there, but if they take a look, they'll find out how local agencies rank in terms of patient results. Having this information, makes choosing a home health agency a less daunting task," said Alvarez. Choice Home Health Care encourages perspective and current patients to visit the website, where they'll find that the data reflects the quality care Choice delivers.

Choice Home Health Care ranks above national and state averages in nine out of twelve categories, and better in most categories compared to other local Medicare-Certified agencies, including percentage of patients who get better at walking or moving around; percentage of patients who get better at getting in and out of bed; percentage of patients who have less pain when moving around; percentage of patients who get better at bathing; percentage of patients who get better at taking their medicines correctly (by mouth); and percentage of patients who are short of breath less often. The improvements in these categories reflects Choice Home Health Care's goal of helping patients regain independence and quality of life in the comfort of their own home.
