CASTROVILLE, Calif. - December 18, 2007 - Ausonio Incorporated, the tri-county's green building expert, continues its commitment to a healthier community through a three-year Titanium sponsorship of the Monterey Bay chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIAMB) and a charter sponsor of the organization's first-ever "Excellence in Sustainable Design Awards." By partnering with AIAMB, Ausonio Incorporated aims to boost awareness and increase educational opportunities about designing and building healthier buildings, reducing carbon emissions, conserving resources, and improving the overall quality of the environment.

The "Excellence in Sustainable Design Awards" promotes achievement in sustainable building design. On December 12, 2007, three "Excellence in Sustainable Design Awards" were awarded to Osborne Architects for the Taiji Residence, HGHB for the York School Science Building, and Carver & Schicketanz for the Treadwell Residence. All architectural projects submitted had to have been constructed in the last 10 years and the applicants had to be AIAMB members.

A panel of experts judged the applicants on a variety of building design principals, such as: sustainable design intent and innovation, regional and community design and connectivity transportation, land use and site ecology, bioclimatic design, indoor environment comfort, building and site water cycle, energy use, conservation and savings, and site and building materials and construction.

Examples of sustainable architecture include: use of deep overhangs and other architectural features to manipulate the sun through the warm and cool seasons, clerestories and light-planes to take advantage of natural light and ventilation, solar water heaters and geothermal heating and cooling systems to provide energy efficient indoor comfort, as well as the use of reclaimed and recycled building materials.
